EU Working Time Directive
The EU Working Time Directive sets clear rules to protect employees’ health and safety by regulating working hours across Europe. It ensures fair working conditions by setting maximum weekly working hours, mandatory rest breaks, and minimum daily and weekly rest periods. Employees are entitled to at least 11 consecutive hours of rest in a 24-hour period and at least one day off per week.
The directive also mandates a maximum average working week of 48 hours, including overtime, calculated over a reference period. Additionally, employees have the right to at least four weeks of paid annual leave.
